An example of what we’re building

Example: detecting and reading number plates

We’re developing our own models and testing them on Farmstream camera hardware to detect vehicles and extract number plates. This is one example of how we can build AI around a specific task. An optional online lookup can then add vehicle details from DVLA.

    Capture the vehicle

    The camera provides the image. Position, distance and lighting all affect how clearly a number plate can be seen.

    Find the number plate

    Our AI model identifies the plate area within the image, ready for the text-reading stage.

  3. 03

    Extract the characters

    The plate image is processed to extract its letters and numbers. We test the results against the original image.

    Look up vehicle details

    We can use the recognised registration to retrieve key vehicle details from DVLA, such as make, colour, year of manufacture and fuel type, where available.
